Personal reading and prayer

Bread requires an account to access the app. After signing in, previously downloaded World English Bible (WEB) and King James Version (KJV) chapters can be read offline. Your journal, reflections, prayers, highlights, verse comments, individual reading progress, memory history, reading-plan enrollments, and drafts for shared posts sync to private, account-owned storage in Supabase through an authenticated service. Bread keeps a local cache and pending offline changes separately for each account. These records are not automatically shared with other people; only content you choose to post to a group is shared with that group. Preferences and secure sign-in information are stored locally to operate the app. Motion information is processed locally. Device backups may include personal app data, depending on your settings.

Accounts and optional sharing

Supabase handles email verification, account credentials, and email/password authentication. Bread stores your account ID, email, and chosen profile name. Existing accounts may retain a name or avatar provided through earlier Google sign-in. Resend is configured for transactional account emails, such as confirmation and password reset. When an avatar is loaded, its host receives ordinary network information.

Shared groups store memberships, progress, reflections, replies, verse notes, prayer details and outcomes, activity, and reactions. Current members can see shared content and activity. This may reveal religion, health, or personal circumstances, so share thoughtfully. Invitations store a token digest, any recipient email, expiry, and revocation status. Their seven-day expiry does not itself delete the stored record.

Online features and notifications

Supabase hosts private account data, shared data, editorial Bible, reading-plan, word-study and history content, plan artwork, and notification services. Authenticated services verify access to private account data. Infrastructure providers may also keep authentication and request logs.

Notifications are optional. Bread stores a random installation ID, Apple push token, account ID, and delivery status. Apple delivers general activity alerts rather than private prayer or reflection text.

Purchases and membership

Apple processes Bread membership purchases and manages subscription payments. Bread does not receive your payment-card or bank-account details. RevenueCat verifies purchases and manages membership access using your Bread account ID and store transaction information, including the purchased plan, price and currency, purchase and renewal dates, expiry, and subscription status. Bread stores a verified membership status separately for sandbox and production purchases in Supabase. RevenueCat also provides purchase history and subscription analytics for membership operations.

Basic usage analytics

Bread uses PostHog in its US region to understand and improve basic app and subscription flows. Basic usage analytics are enabled for verified, signed-in Bread accounts, and there is no in-app analytics switch. In current versions, an older optional analytics setting no longer controls this collection. Bread sends limited actions such as account readiness, paywall views, plan selection, purchase and restore results, and saving a reading completion. Bread also sends limited production subscription events such as trial starts, payments, renewals, cancellation of renewal, expiry, billing issues, and refunds.

These events use your Bread account ID, so they can be linked to your account; they are not anonymous. Event details are limited to the action and its time, app version, sandbox or production environment, monthly or annual plan, a basic result, and a purchase amount when available. Bread does not send email addresses, profile names, prayer or note contents, verse references, plan titles, receipts, or raw error messages to PostHog. Automatic interaction capture and screen recordings are disabled. Analytics events disable location enrichment, and PostHog is configured to discard client IP addresses rather than store them with events. Service providers may still process ordinary network information to receive requests and operate their services.

Analytics do not determine your membership access. For questions about this processing or access and deletion requests, contact support@readbread.com.

How information is used

Account, shared, and membership data support sign-in, private sharing, invitations, notifications, purchase verification, membership access, customer support, and service security. RevenueCat provides subscription reporting, and PostHog analytics help us understand and improve basic app and subscription flows. Bread does not use these data for advertising or tracking across other companies’ apps and websites. Emailing support@readbread.com shares your address and the information you include so we can respond to your request.

Retention, deletion, and choices

Account and shared information are stored to provide those features until removed using the service’s deletion controls. To delete your account, open Profile, Settings, Manage your account, then Delete account and confirm. This removes your active account, profile, memberships, authored contributions, notifications, push registrations, and owned groups, including their contributions and invitations. Other people’s groups remain; replies to a deleted post may also be removed.

Account deletion also removes your account’s active private server records and its local caches and pending offline changes. Removing the app can remove local data but does not itself delete your account or its server records. Live-data deletion does not guarantee immediate removal from provider backups or logs, and other people may retain copies outside Bread. You can stop sharing, sign out, or turn off notifications in device settings. If you previously linked an external sign-in provider, you can revoke its access in that provider’s settings.

Deleting your Bread account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage or cancel it in your Apple subscription settings. Account deletion removes the membership projection and associated analytics state associated with your account from Bread’s active Supabase data, but does not automatically erase records already held by Apple, RevenueCat, or PostHog. For access or deletion requests involving those records, email support@readbread.com. Purchase, security, and service records may remain subject to provider retention practices and applicable requirements. We do not promise immediate removal from provider logs or backups.
